Verification and Validation of the Safety and Security of Automated Systems

Funding Program: European Union Framework Programme

The VALU3S project is dedicated to designing and validating a comprehensive Verification and Validation (V&V) framework for automated systems, with a strong focus on Safety, Cybersecurity, and Privacy (SCP) requirements. To achieve this, the project evaluates 13 representative use cases across multiple industries, each with distinct safety, security, and privacy challenges.

The VALU3S framework combines an extensive reference catalogue of established V&V methodologies with newly developed approaches designed to reduce the time, cost, and effort required to verify and validate automated systems. Together, the framework and reference catalogues provide a structured foundation for developing more efficient and reliable V&V workflows.

To support these enhanced processes, VALU3S develops advanced tools for assessing safety, cybersecurity, privacy, and other key performance criteria through measurable indicators and real-world demonstrators. The project also contributes to the advancement of international safety, cybersecurity, and privacy standards through active collaboration with leading standardization organizations.

Bringing together partners from 10 countries, VALU3S unites industrial organizations from the automotive, agriculture, railway, healthcare, aerospace, industrial automation, and robotics sectors with leading research institutes and universities. The project provides engineers, researchers, and testing professionals with practical guidance for improving the efficiency, reliability, and cost-effectiveness of the verification and validation of automated systems.
